Bleeding events can occur from many causes: vehicle accidents, machinery and farming accidents, irresponsible and unsafe handling of firearms, the actions of mentally and emotionally unstable people, or terrorism.
Preventing blood loss is essential to saving life; a person can die within minutes from life-threatening bleeding.
SLCFSA offers this hands-on training to all who want to learn how to save life.
The Quarryville Fire Company Unit 5-7 is kindly providing the training location.
Instruction begins with an East Hempfield Police officer describing defense strategies in active shooter situations. Then SVEMS paramedics explain in how to save lives. Using true-to-life prosthetic limbs which bleed cranberry juice, attendees will experience firsthand exactly how to apply pressure, how to pack a wound, and how to apply tourniquets. Attendees will receive a STOP THE BLEED training booklet and course completion certificate.
SVEMS will also have BLEEDING CONTROL KITS available for purchase. Each kit is $40 and contains a tourniquet, gloves, gauze, marking pen, and Israeli bandage.
Stop the Bleed is a national program. Read more here.
